Combining Intuitive Tech with a Human Touch for an Investment App

There are loads of apps out there which allow you to trade stocks, but Claro spotted a gap in the market - an app that would bring together ethical investment opportunities with personal financial planning. Together we have developed a new app to fill this space, one that empowers individuals to make ethical and sustainable financial decisions and investments.

We developed an initial business proposition and product strategy focused purely on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) investing - an umbrella term for investments that seek positive returns and long-term impact on society, environment and the performance of the business. We then helped the business recruit and appoint a CEO and COO and collaborated with them to redesign a new service model that combined both powerful tech around ESG investment with access to expert financial coaching to help users make investment decisions that were also sustainable for them on a personal level.

Moving quickly doesn’t have to mean losing quality

In fintech, there’s a strong need to quickly test APIs, design in code and build out platforms from off-the-shelf components. That way, platforms can be tested to ensure they work as intended and meet regulatory requirements, before being user-tested, iterated and launched. Based on our understanding of this regulatory environment, we were able to accelerate design and build with off the shelf components. We also enjoyed high levels of trust with the senior team that enabled us to implement high quality code with higher than average test coverage. We were able to collaborate effectively as a team with regular estimation sessions using planning poker with SA + QA + Platform (e.g. iOS or Backend).

Designing our own obsolescence

At Monstarlab, we partner with new businesses to accelerate the launch and scale of complex technologies. With Claro, we provided this support from concept, through discovery, and well into the development phase. Our strategists worked closely with investors and the new management team to evolve the core business proposition whilst our engineers fast-tracked product design and development. We have recently completed our role in the project and have handed over to the internal team, who are now - quite rightly - 100% in charge of its destiny.
