Fujitsu has been trying to create a more inclusive and caring work environment for their employees. In particular, they considered how assistive technology could be utilised to better embrace diversity within the organisation. Monstarlab teamed up with Fujitsu to provide an efficient way of kickstarting a digital change management process. We provided the framework and methodology, and facilitated a Five Day Sprint.
Following five consecutive days of brainstorming sessions, Nodes provided a framework and methodology for problem-solving. They identified various potential issues that autistic employees might face and created a prototype based on Fujitsu's existing buddy system. This new app, called BuddyConnect, allowed all employees to connect with their respective buddies. Here, a buddy is an internal employee who can provide a little support or have a fun chat. Through a simple, color-coded system, users can see each employee's current mood and take action (e.g., green means great, red means not so good). In addition, the app includes several planning and scheduling tools to help users avoid being overwhelmed with tasks and manage their day comfortably.
After prototyping and testing, Nodes and Fujitsu gathered as much feedback as possible. While employees were generally satisfied with the app, they identified several areas for improvement, such as the need for greater attention to privacy and the provision of training and resources for buddies providing support.
