Careem NOW: A Food Delivery Service

Robust food delivery app fulfill 1M orders under a year from launch

Careem is a company based in Dubai that develops ride-hailing and payment services. It operates in 120 cities across 15 countries, mainly in the Middle East, and has become so widespread that its user base exceeds 35 million. Nodes, which served as Monstarlab's European base (now integrated into Monstarlab), was responsible for the overall service development support of Careem's new food delivery business, "Careem NOW."

Rapid development needed

Initially, "Careem NOW" started as a two-year development plan until service release. However, due to the increasing importance of securing the benefits of being a first-mover service in the Dubai market in terms of business strategy, the policy was changed to prioritize early release. Therefore, a shorter development period was required.

Leverage existing services

Instead of developing a new technical foundation for the service, we proposed development that applied Careem's existing service structure. By narrowing down the elements that needed to be newly developed, we achieved a launch in a short period of less than four months.

The outcome

In line with Careem's requirements, the service was released in December 2018. Despite the short development period, it received high praise for its technical aspects, including a design capable of withstanding the service's scale and the completion of strict security standards. The service gained support from local users as a "new food delivery service." It has now been acquired by Uber and has solidified its position as the leading service in the Middle East.
