As interest in generative AI accelerated rapidly, PGIM recognized the need to guide employees toward productive and appropriate AI use. While some employees had already begun using large language models (LLMs), most were engaging with the technology in a surface-level way — exploring its novelty rather than applying it to real work.
Without structured education in place, there was a risk that AI adoption would remain inconsistent across the organization. A system was needed to help every employee understand how to use AI appropriately and develop the practical skills to apply it meaningfully in their roles.
Drawing on its expertise in AI service design, Monstarlab's Americas team designed and developed an interactive digital learning product that allows employees to progress through the material at their own pace.
The core design principle was learning by doing. Rather than simply explaining AI concepts, the content was structured around hands-on exercises based on real-world use cases, enabling employees to build understanding through practice. Ease of use was also a key consideration, ensuring that employees across a wide range of skill levels — as is common in large enterprises — could engage with the material comfortably and at their own pace.
The curriculum was built around three use cases where LLMs excel: Summarization, Fact Retrieval, and Sentiment Analysis. Each topic was paired with scenarios and exercises grounded in PGIM's actual business context, reinforcing not just knowledge but practical skill. The design went beyond showing employees how to use the tools — it helped them understand why AI is effective in each specific context.
Through the program, employees developed practical AI literacy — gaining the ability to independently judge where and how AI can add value in their work. Adoption has begun to shift from surface-level experimentation toward concrete business applications such as improving operational efficiency and supporting better decision-making.
This project stands as an example of how enterprise AI transformation requires more than tool deployment — structured employee education is essential. The interactive, self-paced design has proven effective in reaching employees across varying levels of familiarity, accelerating meaningful adoption throughout the organization.
