Monstarlab created an age verification SDK that can be embedded in the supermarket’s app or kiosk software. The system leverages machine learning, facial recognition and photo verification, to visually assess the customer’s age, and verify the customer’s ID when needed. Because internet connectivity is often the issue in many retail locations the system works offline as well as online, handling the processing on-device. To be fully compliant with GDPR rules and to respect user privacy, no personal data is sent or stored anywhere but the user’s device.
To automate the process Monstarlab utilised machine learning algorithms, specifically trained to determine the apparent age of the customer. Robust liveness detection is built into the system to ensure masks or photos do not lead to false positives. In cases where age can't be verified with certainty, the ID check is performed; name and date of birth are verified via a visual scan using optical character recognition technology. The high-resolution photo extracted from a passport chip is used to confirm identity. A variety of cryptographic technologies was used to ensure cybersecurity, especially in offline applications. The system is self-contained and doesn't rely on any external services or APIs. The Age Assurance Machine learning models are trained on a vast and diverse set of training data to ensure that customers are given an ethical and consistent experience regardless of their age, gender or ethnicity.
Fujitsu and Monstarlab built an SDK natively for iOS and Android; it can be embedded in an existing application or a point of sale to verify the customer's age when purchasing age-restricted products like tobacco or alcohol, or requesting access to age-restricted services. The system is divided into Age Estimation and Age Verification components that together create a Digital Proof of Age system but can be implemented separately, depending on a use case.
A fully integrated solution that ensures a consistent brand experience with full control over the customer's journey. The end user doesn't need to interact with any additional third-party systems.
Sensitive data never leaves the user's device. The solution is GDPR compliant, secure and doesn't require constant connectivity. AI application is based around ethical AI practices: it has no capability to identify persons or retain their personal data.
Powerful artificial intelligence system that can visually evaluate eligibility for age-restricted products or services. Age can also be verified using multiple methods, through the app or QR validation service.
