At Mandai Wildlife Group, approximately 450 zookeepers work across all facilities, with each responsible for multiple animals, handling tasks such as feeding, health checks, training, and shows. Consequently, tasks like recording animal management information and placing feed orders involved a workflow where notes were initially taken by hand in the field and later entered into the recording system in the office, resulting in a lack of timely information sharing. Furthermore, multiple types of recording systems existed, requiring users to switch between them depending on the data being entered.
In this situation, opportunities for information exchange between zookeepers in the office were often missed. Communication among zookeepers relied on personal chat applications in addition to the aforementioned systems, leading to significant challenges in terms of the extra effort required to transcribe information and the overall communication overhead.
To address these issues, the implementation of a business application was considered, and Monstarlab was selected as the partner for this project.
To begin, Monstarlab focused on understanding and analyzing the current workflows at each facility. In the initial stages of the project, this involved visiting the zoo and other facilities multiple times to observe zookeepers' tasks.
Based on this analysis, seven functions were proposed.
These included a \"Morning Meeting Checklist Function\" for reviewing daily tasks, \"Feeding Record Function\" and \"Calendar Function\" for tracking animal care activities, and an \"Internal SNS Function\" to enable seamless communication among employees. The proposed application aimed to comprehensively address the various challenges faced by zookeepers.
Furthermore, the screen design was meticulously crafted with ease of use in mind, considering scenarios where zookeepers would enter information on-site. This included making buttons larger to facilitate on-the-spot input during their work.

Tasks that previously required switching between different recording systems depending on the work being done, or changing clothes to enter information in the office, can now be easily performed from a smartphone, from anywhere, resulting in a significant improvement in operational efficiency. Furthermore, the newly implemented internal SNS has facilitated more active interaction and information exchange among zookeepers, addressing the communication challenges they faced.
It is reported that the quality of care provided to the animals has also improved as a result of the increased efficiency brought about by the application.
By partnering with Mandai Wildlife Group and providing solutions that leverage technology, Monstarlab was able to create significant value that benefits not only zookeepers but also the animals themselves.
