Ivy Cosmetics' sales representatives visit their loyal customers with the \"Ivy Regi\" sales management app, offering products tailored to each individual. Among the customers' concerns, wrinkles are a frequent issue. Therefore, coinciding with the launch of a newly developed medicated cream for wrinkle improvement, the company believed that a skin analysis system capable of recognizing wrinkles would further enhance the quality of their counseling.
While the idea was to use the camera on the sales representatives' mobile devices to photograph and score wrinkles, AI, which is necessary for skin analysis, was still a relatively new technology at the time. Consequently, Ivy Cosmetics sought a partner with the knowledge and know-how to realize their vision.
Monstarlab, with its team of AI engineers skilled in cutting-edge AI technology, built a solution based on Ivy Cosmetics' idea. Recognizing that AI was a new technology for Ivy Cosmetics, they carefully explained what was and wasn't feasible.
Technically, they constructed the skin analysis engine using computer vision, which extracts information from images captured by computers, and machine learning. They dedicated approximately six months to each technology, completing the system within a year. The developed skin analysis system is integrated as a service within the app used by sales representatives. This allows sales representatives to take multiple photos of a customer's face from different angles using the camera. When this data is sent to the skin analysis engine via the app, wrinkles are detected and displayed.
To reduce false positives, such as misidentifying nasolabial folds or moles as wrinkles, it was necessary to train the AI with a large amount of data through a manual process called annotation. Furthermore, given the limited availability of facial image data at the time, they adopted an approach of starting with a certain level of accuracy and then improving it by learning from the data accumulated over time. Monstarlab also provided support for planning the utilization of data, agile development, PoC (Proof of Concept) support for advanced technologies, and architecture construction, making adjustments to the response time from when a sales representative takes a photo to when the results are obtained as needed. As a result, they were able to proceed to the service launch almost according to the initial plan.
", "content2": "The wrinkle-specific skin analysis system garnered significant attention immediately after its release, partly due to its novelty at the time. By integrating in-person sales (analog) with an AI analysis system (digital), it contributed to improved convenience for Ivy Cosmetics' sales representatives. Furthermore, the numerical representation of wrinkle count and assessment enables consultants to provide objective evaluations to customers, thereby strengthening sales capabilities. Ongoing learning from the accumulated data will also help refine accuracy and reduce inconsistencies in detection results caused by factors like background and lighting.
Future plans involve further enhancements to promote greater utilization by sales representatives, and continuous support will be provided for customer service that integrates digital technologies.
