Engineering a sustainable digital infrastructure and app platform
From ride-hailing to food delivery
Over the course of several years, Careem established itself as the market leading ride-hailing service in the Middle East. Based in Dubai, Careem had expanded their service into 100 cities in the region. That’s when they decided to take it to the next level by introducing a new service: food delivery. They approached Nodes to help build the first app and infrastructure for this new venture. The app is called Careem NOW. The challenge was to get the first version of it launched by 2018.
Delivering the project ahead of schedule
Initially, the whole project was given a two-year timeframe. This gave Nodes plenty of time to build all the technical infrastructure for the platform. The tricky part was basing the platform on microservices, while still being incorporating it into Careem’s existing infrastructure. It turned out to be more than enough time. The Nodes and Careem NOW teams worked in tandem, getting the job done in just four months. An incredible feat, especially considering that they managed to produce everything in the original two-year plan.
On par with industry leaders
Careem NOW launched in December 2018, and it has been a runaway success. Not only did Nodes create an app way before deadline, but, from a user perspective, the app is on par with any of the existing industry leading services out there. From a technical perspective, the underlying infrastructure is built with the strict security and technical standards needed for a product of this size and scope.
