DOT (Din Offentlige Transport) contacted Monstarlab, as they wanted a partner with extensive technological know how, who could develop a new and improved app that could cater to millions of passengers, their needs, and their travel patterns. With enhanced technologies and an agile development process, Monstarlab developed an app that makes it possible for passengers to view all available ticket options, purchase tickets with facial recognition and fingerprints, and it provides a unique map visualisation to make it a lot easier to buy the correct tickets. It even works without any data connection.
In September 2019 the first of three planned metro lines in Copenhagen were made available to the public. With 17 new underground stations, it was expected that more than 191.2 million passengers will use the Metro every year in 2035. The expansion raised a new set of challenges for DOT. We partnered with DOT to design and develop a new and improved app for all types of passengers in and around the area. The overall goal was to improve user satisfaction by developing a comprehensive all-in-one app for iOS and Android.
Through advanced technologies and an agile development process, the resulting app makes it possible for passengers to view all available ticket options, purchase tickets with facial recognition and fingerprints, and it provides a unique map visualisation to make it a lot easier to buy the right tickets. The new DOT app accommodates commuters as well as the occasional passenger with 11 different ticket options for the area they operate in. The DOT app is also developed with the intention of adding on the two upcoming Metro-lines, Nordhavnslinjen and Sydhavnslinjen, which are opening up in 2020 and 2024, respectively.
Use of facial recognition and fingerprints to purchase tickets.
Easy journey planning and purchasing of correct ticket types by clicking on a map.
Advanced technology enables users to purchase tickets even with low connectivity.
Din Offentlige Transport – DOT – is a collaboration between the three major public transportation organisations (bus, train and metro) in the Copenhagen area, Zealand, Lolland, Falster and Møn. Their sole purpose is to create a better and more connected public transport, collecting customer service, traffic information, prices, tickets, communication and marketing in one organisation. In 2018 over 310 million passengers chose to travel by either bus, train or metro in those areas.
