Tokyo’s Largest Fleet Aims for Efficiency
S.RIDE is a joint venture between cab operators in Tokyo and the Sony Group. More than 10,000 vehicles are owned by the shareholding cab operators, making them the largest fleet in Tokyo. The name of the cab dispatch app, “S.RIDE,” symbolizes a new cab experience that offers a Simple, Smart, and Speedy ride. With a single swipe, you can call the nearest cab from Tokyo’s largest cab network. Monstarlab was tapped to support the front-end development of the cab dispatch service.
Development Driven by Agile Processes
In running the service, we needed to stay agile to accommodate the various additional functions that came up and had to be implemented. To cite one example, when obtaining approval for advance fixed fares for cabs from the government bureau in charge, we had to meet the urgent need to support advance fixed fare services as soon as possible.
Pre-fixed fare is a new system that allows users to enter their pickup location and destination before boarding the cab, and based on the projected travel distance on the map, a fixed fare is automatically calculated in advance.
Monstarlab organized an agile team of engineers that could address the different situations cab companies face to ensure continuous support. On top of that, a collaborative team composed of members from Monstarlab and S.Ride development teams was assembled to handle pre-fixed fare service and drive architecture improvement. By choosing to expand and optimize the existing architecture, delivery times were shortened and the service was launched without delays.
