The University of Massachusetts set out to create a fairer, more engaging way to assess adult learners. Monstarlab helped transform that vision into a fully functional MVP in just three months—introducing adaptive testing, streamlining educator tools, and building a scalable foundation for national impact.
\n\nThrough collaborative workshops, we aligned educators, researchers, and technologists on core goals for equity, accessibility, and engagement. We then mapped a phased product roadmap, prioritizing essential features like adaptive delivery, real-time scoring, and simplified administration.
\n\nPrototypes were tested with real learners to uncover barriers around language, navigation, and timing. Weekly sprints and refinements ensured the UI met WCAG 2.1 AA standards and addressed diverse user needs.
\n\nWe built the platform in parallel with limited beta tests, allowing feedback to shape workflows without delaying launch. A modular, cloud-native architecture ensures low maintenance costs and future flexibility.
\n\nWith the MVP live, UMass is now preparing for broader roll-out and deeper capability. The platform’s modular design allows for rapid iteration and easy extension into new use cases, from institutional training to workplace credentialing.
Together, these next steps will shape a more inclusive, data-driven future for adult education—across Massachusetts and beyond.
