GLS: Enhancing Parcel Distribution Efficiency
As the third-largest parcel distributor in Europe, GLS is committed to creating a streamlined work environment for employees. With a focus on fast and secure parcel delivery and returns, GLS sought our expertise to develop a new tool for easy parcel scanning and data collection throughout delivery routes.
Challenges and Objectives
- The original device's support was discontinued.
- Drivers reported issues with the device's weight and functionality.
- Our task was to develop an app that not only substitutes but improves upon the previous device.
Our Agile Approach
At Monstarlab, we value an agile process to ensure effective outcomes. GLS handled the back-end development, while we focused on design and front-end development. Upon engagement, we initiated an innovation sprint with GLS to identify essential features for driver efficiency.
Prototype and Development
By day five, we had a prototype ready for a group of drivers. Using their feedback, we proceeded with designing and building the app, ensuring it met the needs for a fast, easy, and effective delivery process.
Results
- 700+ drivers estimated to use the hand scanner in Denmark.
- The app proved to be faster and more efficient for drivers in their daily work.
General Logistics Systems (GLS)
GLS is Europe's second-largest ground parcel carrier, handling 870 million parcels annually. Their extensive network includes:
- 120 hubs
- 37,000 vehicles
- Operations across 40 countries
A subsidiary of Royal Mail, GLS expanded its operations to the U.S. in 2025. This integration facilitates direct EU–US e-commerce deliveries, positioning GLS as a competitor to UPS and DHL.
